The government is working to clarify certain measures to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus by officially asking people who are displaying mild symptoms to stay home and rest.

This was done to prevent the collapse of the medical system by limiting the number of people being exposed to infected patients.

Although there have been deaths reported and some serious cases, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), 80% of the cases are mild. However, there are several confirmed areas in Japan in which it is still unknown how patients became infected with the virus, and if the situation is left as is, the number of infected patients will dramatically increase. That would cause the number of seriously ill people to increase as well, making it more and more difficult for medical institutions to keep the situation under control. If the number of patients -- including those showing mild symptoms -- increases, medical institutions could become a breeding ground for the coronavirus.

When a new strain of influenza broke out in 2009, medical institutions in some areas were flooded with patients and medical care was hindered. To stop the spread of disease, it is vital to learn from the past. The government has no choice but to actively disclose information and ensure that each and every citizen can do what they can to prevent the virus was spreading further.
