Monks at a temple near a luxury condo have decided to ring its bell lightly following a complaint from at least one condo resident while Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang defended the monastery.

Pol Gen Asawin said on Thursday the decision of Wat Sai to ring its tower bell more softly was already a compromise between the temple and the complainants living at the Star View Rama 3 condominium on Rama III Road in Bang Kholaem district.
The governor also offered his suggestion to people living around the temple who could not stand the sound.
"Temple bells continue to ring. They will never stop. It's easier for a person who cannot stand the sound to move out," he said.
Pol Gen Asawin said two people had complained about the noise with the temple and the district office.
The governor on Thursday went to the temple to apologise to abbot Phra Athikan Preecha Punnalo on behalf of the district which came up with the "tone-down" instruction.
The new district chief, Anant Kaipan, who took over the job on Thursday, apologised to the abbot for letter asking the temple to lower the sound. It was issued by an assistant district chief who was acting district chief at the time.
