Governor Beshear declares state of emergency after recent flooding

Kentucky is officially under a state of emergency. Governor Beshear made the declaration Wednesday after heavy rain drenched much of the commonwealth and caused flooding in parts of western and eastern Kentucky.

During a press conference, the Governor said rescue operations are already in the works for flooded areas.

“Swift water search and rescue teams statewide have been put on alert in case additional help is needed. Thus far, we have had zero requests for state assistance but we stand ready to help these communities if they need more than local first responders can handle.”

The Governor said this declaration is just one of the actions being taken to help Kentuckians.

“I’ve also activated the state’s price gouging laws to protect families from grossly overpriced goods and services. Sadly, during these natural disasters, and, or flooding, what we see is some people trying to take advantage of people that are already struggling and are impacted and we’re not going to let that happen.”

While this state of emergency is in place, consumers can report price gouging to the office of the Attorney General. The state of emergency operations center has been activated and that brings state partners to the E-O-C bringing many resources under one roof.
