The Government will make a decision on whether or not to delay the reopening of society early this week.
Taoiseach Micheal Martin has confirmed that Cabinet will be meeting in the coming days, before an announcement in relation to the planned July 5th easing of restrictions.
Rising cases of the dreaded Delta variant has been a growing cause of concern amid fears it could lead to a fourth wave of Covid-19.
Any delay would come as a massive blow for the hospitality industry, with thousands of bars and restaurants nationwide remaining closed.
It had previously been estimated that six million pints could be wasted should pubs stay shut.
Mr Martin said that Government "understands how devastating" this year has been to the sector, adding that they "need to give notice" to businesses.
It has been reported in recent days that Government is considering postponing the reopening of society by three weeks.
By delaying the easing of any further measures until July 26th, it is hoped that those over 60 who have received the AstraZeneca jab already will be fully vaccinated.
Mr Martin told RTE's This Week in Politics that NIAC's decision on whether or not young people can receive the AstraZeneca or Janssen vaccines will be a factor in their decision.
A final decision will not be made until the Government receives the latest data and advice from NPHET in the coming days.
