Government travel list reviews: when is the next update announced?

The summer holidays might be over, but the weather is still warm and people may still be wanting to get away for a last blast of sun before the winter sets in.

Of course, the government's traffic light system for foreign travel remains in place, with different rules in place for green, amber, and red list countries. These lists are reviewed every three weeks by the transport secretary, Grant Shapps.

With some popular destinations still providing logistical challenges, either going out or when coming back, these reviews have become major events. But when is the next one due?

When is the next UK travel list review?

The government is expected to reveal its next travel list review on Thursday, September 16. However, in the past, the updated lists have emerged late the previous night, so we may know by the end of Wednesday, September 17.

The changes will likely then take effect from 4am the following Monday, September 20.

What could change?

At present, we don't know too much about what might be changed. Some data experts have suggested Turkey could move from the red list to the amber list, while one has said Antigua and Barbuda is in danger of going from green to amber.

We'll find out next week.
