Tanaiste Leo Varadkar has delivered some disappointing news for anyone that's planning their wedding day in August after confirming that the permitted numbers are not expected to increase to 100 people.
At present, weddings can go ahead with up to 50 guests at the ceremony and reception.
This number was expected to increase to 100, but the impact of the Delta variant has put a dampener on any plans for larger weddings and gatherings.
Speaking at Dublin Castle this afternoon, the Tànaiste said: "As has always been the case, we'll often set an indicative date or a target date for the further easing of restrictions, but we always say to people to operate on the basis that they won't change. Don't assume that they will change.
"I'd say to anyone who's planning a wedding in August to operate on the basis that it will be 50. That might change, it might change to 100 but I wouldn't plan on that basis."
In terms of the other current restrictions that are in place for weddings, the hotel and tourist accommodation is permitted for the bride, groom and guests.
Elsewhere, a photographer is permitted, the reception must be a sit-down meal only, live music/dancing is not allowed and novelty supplies/acts are not permitted too.
Aside from this, face coverings/ masks must be worn by staff in customer-facing roles where no other protective measures are in place e.g. protective screens and where physical distancing of 2metres is not possible.
Government health procedures must also be adhered to along with social distancing protocols.
