The government has revealed the total number of coronavirus vaccines administered in the UK so far.
The UK's vaccine roll-out started on Tuesday last week after the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) approved the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine for use in the country.
The first people to be vaccinated include elderly people over the age of 80, care home staff and residents and healthcare workers.
The government had previously said 'tens of thousands' of people have been given the jab in the first week, but had held off on giving an official figure until now.
Vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi has now said that nearly 138,000 people have been administered their first jab of the vaccine.
A second dose of the vaccine is required after 21 days.
A total of 108,000 people in England have been given the vaccine, 7,897 in Wales, 4,000 in Northern Ireland and 18,000 in Scotland.
That means 137,897 people have received the jab so far.
Mr Zahawi said it had been "a really good start to the vaccination program" and that numbers would rise "as we have operationalised hundreds of PCN (primary care networks)".
Overall, the UK has ordered 40 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine – enough to vaccinate 20 million people.
Health secretary Matt Hancock has said he hopes several million people can be vaccinated before Christmas.
So far, it is known that 800,000 doses of the jab have arrived in the country from Belgium, but the government has not revealed when more will be on their way.
