Government publishes official health guidelines and advice for parents ahead of schools reopening

The Government has published official back to school Covid-19 advice for parents.

The public health advice outlines the circumstances under which they shouldn't send their children to school.

It’s understood it will be sent out to schools and not parents directly.

The guidelines were printed out and given to members of the media at Monday's coronavirus press briefing at the Department of Health.

The advice says parents should not send their kids to school if their child:

  • has a temperature of above 38C
  • displays coronavirus symptoms
  • was in close contact with a confirmed case
  • living with someone who is unwell and may have coronavirus

If the child has any of the above, parents should:

  • isolate their child
  • phone their GP
  • restrict movements of their child and those who live with them until diagnosis from a GP
  • treat their child at home for their symptoms

It comes as the Department of Health announced 147 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

This rise has brought the total number of infections in the Republic to 28,116.

There were no new deaths linked to the bug so the death toll remains at 1,777.
