Government pledges to introduce scheme for 30 percent off homes for first-time buyers

The Government's Housing Minister Robert Jenrick has pledged the Conservatives will build more homes and offer a 30 percent discount to first-time buyers in their own area.

On Monday, December 16, the Newark MP Mr Jenrick visited the £140m Chase Farm housing development in Gedling - one of the county's newest and biggest sites where more than 1,000 properties will be built.

He had a tour around the site with Keepmoat Homes' management and staff to see how the development was coming along.

As well as pledging that the Government that "people really care about", such as health, schools and infrastructure, he also promised more new homes and a new scheme to launch next year.

The scheme, called First Home, will focus on allowing first time-buyers to have a 30 percent discount on their house price if they "live in the area."

Mr Jenrick told Nottinghamshire Live: "We want to get more homes built in all parts of the country, we are already building more homes than we've built in any year bar one in the last 30 years.

"We know we need to do more. We're going to focus on helping particularly young people and those on lower incomes onto the housing ladder to own a home of their own.

"We're going to be introducing early in the new year our policy First Home which will offer a 30 percent discount for local first time buyers to purchase a property in their own area.

"We're also going to spend more money on infrastructure so that as new homes are built people can see that the GP surgery appointments, the schools and the roads flow with that.

"We also want to ensure that these new homes fit in with their local communities so we're going to be giving local people the right to decide what architecture should look like, what services they want alongside their new homes and a right to reject poor quality or lazy development."

Every seat in Nottinghamshire outside the city voted Conservative in a devastating night for the Labour party which saw the government take an 80-seat majority.
