The UK government is planning to allow the Premier League season to be finished behind closed doors.
During the daily press conference, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab revealed the government has met with sports bodies over the resumption of professional sports.
He was asked a question on if the Premier League could resume in June.
Mr Raab remained tight-lipped on a timescale but said: "I think it would lift the spirits of the nation... to enjoy some of those pastimes, sporting in particular.
"I know the government has had constructive meetings with sport bodies to plan for athletes to resume training when it is safe to do so.
"I can tell you the Culture Secretary has also been working on a plan to get sports played behind closed doors, when we move to the second phase.
"Of course, I come back to the key point on that we can only do it when medical and scientific advice says it can be done safely and sustainably."
Asked whether professional sports would remain behind closed doors if there was no vaccine, Mr Raab says there are different ways we can control the virus in order to get back to normal.
A further 693 people have died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK as of 5pm on Monday.
During today's press briefing, Mr Raab said the Prime Minister will update the country later this week on "the measures and decisions that we will need to take to protect the NHS, to safeguard the economy and to avoid the risk of a second peak".
