Government issues update on needing a vaccine passport to shop in Primark, Home Bargains, Aldi and Tesco

Yesterday, the Government gave the go ahead for non-essential shops, gyms, hairdressers and barbers to reopen in England on April 12.

As a result, the UK is gearing up to get out and about for the first time in months.

During yesterday's speech, Boris Johnson ruled out vaccine passports becoming legal requirements for entering places like ASDA, Tesco, Aldi, Pure Gym and Fitness First.

He said: "I think the most important thing to say to everybody listening and watching is that there is absolutely no question of people being asked to produce certification or a Covid status report when they go to the shops or to the pub garden or to the hairdressers or whatever on Monday."

But there is currently no confirmation on whether clothes shoppers will need a vaccine passport to enter shops from June 21.

A Downing Street spokesperson told the Independent: "We have been clear we will not require them as businesses reopen as part of stages two and three.

"The PM is clear on longer term essential settings and services, eg essential retail and transport, where we believe they won't be required.

"We are looking at how Covid Certificates could have an important role to play domestically as well as internationally.

"We will come forward with more detail in due course. We are taking this work forward and will consider all the evidence.

"Anyone asked to get the jab should come forward and do so."
