Government Good Morning Britain boycott could end as Justice Secretary pushed for answers

The government boycott of Good Morning Britain could come to an end tomorrow after Justice Secretary Robert Buckland seemed to agree to making an appearance.

Today marked day 22 of a supposed government boycott, with ministers seemingly refusing to appear on the show after facing repeated grillings from presenter Piers Morgan.

The Justice Secretary appeared live from Westminster in a socially distanced interview with news correspondent, Jonathan Swain.

Piers Morgan could be heard asking him to speak to viewers via video link.

The 55-year-old presenter and journalist said: "Mr Buckland, would you like to talk to Good Morning Britain, to our viewers, tell us what's going on?"

Mr Buckland could be heard faintly saying he would "love to" speak with the presenters as Jonathan Swain pressed him for answers.

Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid said: "He'd love to come on."

Piers said: "Right, okay, well we'll see you tomorrow."

Susanna added: "Or maybe in a few minutes."

But Mr Buckland could then be heard offering reasons as to why he couldn't speak to viewers or the hosts.

Piers said: "A busy schedule today of media interviews, doesn't think the Good Morning Britain viewers are important enough for his time. Swainy pushing him hard, this is excellent."

Susanna added: "I've never seen Jonathan Swain use his watch quite so much."

Mr Buckland walked off, with Jonathan Swain turning to the camera to speak with Piers and Susanna.

Jonathan said: "He did say he loves the presenters, he watches the show, would like to come on the show but he's actually walking off as we speak.

"Who knows, fingers crossed."

Jonathan added the Justice Secretary would come on as soon as his "schedule allowed".

*Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV from 6am
