Government for educating deprived kids in all districts: Bihar education minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary

PATNA: The state education department reviewed the progress of a literacy programme launched in nine selected districts for the children of mahadalits, dalits, and extremely backward communities, in collaboration with the Directorate Of Mass Education and Pratham, and decided to expand it to all remaining districts in Bihar.

Education minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, who chaired the review meeting, told this newspaper on Tuesday that the scheme’s performance in all nine districts over the last three years was found to be quite satisfactory, and it was decided to implement the same pattern of educating deprived children in all districts.

Additionally, it was decided to strengthen the capacity building skills of key resource persons for the ‘Akshar Anchal Yojana’, as well as the learning capabilities of children and their mothers.

The minister stated, “Enrolment of children in schools increased to 98% as a result of the implementation of Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) in the districts of Nalanda, Vaishali, Arwal, Jehanabad, Katihar, Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia, and Supaul in 2018-19. The level of language and arithmetic learning of the target group’s children improved significantly. However, women continue to have the lowest literacy rates in the country.”
