Government extends advice on non-essential travel to July 20

The Government advice against non-essential travel has been extended until July 20.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin, Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly and Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney announced the extension from the original date of July 9 this evening.

Mr Martin stressed that all non-essential travel needs to be avoided until then.

A green list will also be released on July 20, which will change every two weeks.

People will be allowed to travel to and from these countries and not have to quarantine afterwards.

People coming from countries not on the list will still have to quarantine after this date.

Minister Coveney said the health experts will analyse countries for green list based on three criteria;

 1. Number of new coronavirus cases over previous 14 days per 100,000 of population

2. Trend in new cases in comparison with previous 14 days, to analyse whether outbreak is on the rise or being suppressed

3. Make an assessment around the testing, surveillance, contact tracing and reliability of information coming from each country.

The Government also announced a Covid tracker app for contact tracing will be revealed on Tuesday.
