Tougher lockdown measures will come into force tomorrow across the entire Liverpool City Region with pubs, gyms and bars shutting.
The news was confirmed by Boris Johnson yesterday as he addressed the House of Commons with a speech in which he announced the region would be placed in the "very high risk" category on the Government's new Covid alert level system.
It is currently only the Liverpool City Region which is made up of Liverpool, Wirral, Sefton, Knowlsey, St Helens and Halton that has been put in this tier.
Guidance has now been updated on the Government website which gives more details about the extent of the restrictions.
Currently, personal care and close contact services such as hairdressers, beauty salons and barbers are allowed to continue to trade.
According to the website, consultations with local authorities could lead to these businesses closing in some areas in order to drive down transmission of the virus but there is no indication at this stage that this will happen across the Liverpool City Region.
Other businesses and places which can remain open include restaurants, shops, schools, universities and places of worship.

Pubs will only be allowed to remain open if they can operate as if they were a restaurant, which means serving substantial meals, like a main lunchtime or evening meal.
Alcohol must only be served as part of such meal.
