Government confirms warning of new test put out 'in error'

The Government has confirmed a new alert warning was put out in "error" and there will be no emergency alert today.

A notice on the UK Government website said another alert would be heard today, Tuesday 25 - but not everyone would receive it. The website read: "There will be a service test of the UK Emergency Alerts system today. Most mobile phones and tablets will not get a test alert."

However they have since confirmed this message was put out in error. A Government spokesperson confirmed to the ECHO that the message was published in error and no further public test has taken place or is planned to take place.

The message has since been removed from the Government website.

Earlier this week, an emergency alert was sent to mobile phones across the UK as part of a test. The loud alarm was scheduled to ring at 3pm on Sunday on all devices that were using 4G and 5G networks in the UK, but many people reported receiving their alert early, late or not at all.

Some annoyed people were woken up during the early hours of Monday morning when their phone rang loudly. The alert rang for 10 seconds and displayed a message notifying phone users that no action was needed in response to the test.

It is designed to warn the public if there is a danger to life nearby and will be used in the future for life-threatening situations including flooding and wildfires
