Government 'committed' to latest Tier review for Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire's Covid-19 tier level will be reviewed on December 30, the Government has confirmed.

All of the county is currently under Tier 3 restrictions following the end of the Christmas bubble relaxation, which means cafés, pubs and restaurants are shut unless providing a takeaway service.

A spokesman from the Department for Health told Nottinghamshire Live the Government is "committed" to reviewing the tiers by the end of December 30 and an announcement on any changes would be made "in due course" after that.

The review will decide if Nottinghamshire moves up to the 'stay at home' Tier 4 level like large parts of the south east of England, stays in Tier 3 or moves down to Tier 2.

It comes after The Mirror reported health secretary Matt Hancock will announce Tier changes in the House of Commons tomorrow afternoon, after MPs had voted on Boris Johnson's Brexit deal.

Almost 600 Covid-19 patients have been admitted to Nottinghamshire's two main hospital trusts so far in December, latest figures show.

Between December 1 and December 20, Nottingham University Hospitals Trust and Sherwood Forest Hospitals reported 584 Covid admissions and diagnoses, according to statistics published by NHS England.

The figures do not yet take into account the impact of Christmas, where households were allowed to mix between three 'bubbles' on Christmas Day.

There were a further 514 cases of coronavirus recorded across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire in the past 24 hours, according to Government data released on Monday December 28.

Nationwide, the death toll now stands at 71,109 and 2,329,730 people have tested positive for Covid-19.
