Government briefing about Nottingham lockdown restrictions is cancelled

A meeting between Government ministers and MPs in Nottingham, potentially about new restrictions in the city, has been cancelled.

This morning (Friday, October 16), the Government invited Nottingham’s three MPs to a briefing about Covid restrictions. at 4pm.

The MPs understood this was to discuss moving the city into tier three - the most severe tier of restrictions.

This was despite the city being placed in tier two on Monday, coming into effect on Wednesday, October 14.

However, the Government has now cancelled the meeting, and no future date has been set.

It is understood the MPs were asked whether to involve public health officials at Nottingham City Council, and they agreed.

Meanwhile infection rates in the city remain the highest in the country.

MPs in areas surrounding the city were not invited to the meeting, suggesting that the restrictions will only affect the city.
