Government decision on Everton's new stadium plan at Bramley-Moore Dock

Everton FC's planned £505m, 52,000-seater stadium is on the verge of being granted formal approval after the Government decided not to step in.

Liverpool City Council has confirmed that Robert Jenrick, the secretary of state for housing, communities and local government, will not be calling in the original decision by the authority.

Mr Jenrick has been reviewing the club’s plans since last month.

That government review was carried after Liverpool City Council’s planning committee unanimously backed the plans on February 23.

The club received written confirmation of the secretary of state’s decision today.

The huge scheme at Bramley-Moore Dock has been in the pipeline for a number of years.

In a statement, the council said it will now grant Everton permission to build, subject to a legal agreement being signed.
