Govanhill gap site to be turned into 24 affordable flats

A gap site in Govanhill is set to be turned into 24 new affordable flats for social rent.

Govanhill Housing Association has been given permission to build the five-storey block on Butterbiggins Road.

The flats will be a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom units including two wheelchair-accessible properties on the ground floor.

The site was formerly occupied by the Lanarkshire Volunteer Artillery drill hall building and then a warehouse before being demolished and left vacant.

A C-listed Victorian tenement and the former Larkfield bus garage site - which is currently being developed into 186 flats and houses - will sit on either side of the new build.

Govanhill Housing Association is awaiting permission for another 121-unit residential complex on Butterbiggins Road at Victoria Road

The side, which is part of the former Larkfield bus depot, was previously earmarked for a Lidl supermarket.

Glasgow City Council has given permission for the development to go-ahead.
