Gov. Beshear issues state of emergency ahead of bitter cold artic blast

Governor Andy Beshear has issued a state of emergency for the commonwealth in anticipation of the dangerous cold and wind chills approaching the Commonwealth late Thursday into Friday morning.

The Governor made the announcement during a special briefing today.

During the briefing, officials encouraged people to have an emergency kit in your car and be aware of carbon monoxide poisoning from indoor heaters like kerosene and other oil-based heaters.

Transportation secretary Jim Gray urged motorists to reschedule travel plans during the worst of the weather.

Forecasters say temperatures will plunge Thursday night as a cold blast moves into the commonwealth. High winds will make the cold weather very dangerous.
