Gourock rammy 'involving weapons' sees cops use stun gun as two men arrested

An early morning rammy involving weapons in Inverclyde saw cops use a stun gun as two men were arrested.

Police swooped on Shore Street in Gourock on Thursday.

Officers arrived at 8.30am to reports of a 'man behaving aggressively and carrying a weapon '.

A fight broke out between two men at the scene, forcing police to use a stun gun.

Two men, aged 29 ad 26, were raced to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment.

Police did not disclose how serious their injuries are.

Both men have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The use of the stun gun was been reported to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) who will launch an independent investigation.

Police said officers will 'continue to target' those who carry weapons and 'instigate violence' within the area.

Inspector James McArthur told the Record: “Officers were called to Shore Street, Gourock around 8.30am on Thursday, May 13 to reports of a man behaving aggressively and carrying a weapon.

“An altercation then took place between two men and officers had to discharge a taser.

“Two men, aged 29 and 26, have been taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment to their injuries.

“Both have also been arrested in connection with this incident.

“As within any Taser deployment a report will be submitted to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC).

“We continue to target those who carry weapons and instigate violence within the Inverclyde area.”
