‘Gotta give it to them’ - Arsenal and Chelsea fans split on Man United’s Rangnick announcement

Arsenal and Chelsea fans have been left disagreeing with Manchester United’s decision to appoint Ralf Rangnick.

The German was appointed as interim boss at Old Trafford on Monday morning, just a week after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking by the Red Devils.

The club confirmed the former Hoffenheim and Leipzig man’s arrival with a statement. He is set to be in charge until the end of the campaign and will then take over a consultancy role until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Following his arrival, Rangnick said: “I am excited to be joining Manchester United and focused on making this a successful season for the club.

“The squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience. All my efforts for the next six months will be on helping these players fulfil their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team.

“Beyond that, I look forward to supporting the club’s longer-term goals on a consultancy basis.”

Since the announcement, Arsenal and Chelsea fans have been giving their reactions, with some worried at United’s potential resurgence under the German, while some are confident that the likes of Mikel Arteta and Thomas Tuchel could be set to get the better of him.

Here are just some of their replies.

Whilst Rangnick has now been appointed at Old Trafford, he is yet to start work with the club.

Due to work visa requirements, he has not yet been allowed to assume control, with caretaker boss Michael Carrick remaining in charge of the first team until the issues are resolved.

It remains to be seen whether that will remain the case for Arsenal’s clash with the Red Devils at Old Trafford in mid-week.
