While the 1970s continue to paint much of fashion with their rusty sexiness, the other half of the high street remains stubbornly 90s. Marc Jacobs, Giles and Emanuel Ungaro all styled their A/W models with aubergine lips, many slipping into full-on matte black, inky slashes sulking on swanlike necks. A little bit 1940s, a little bit Halloween, a lot 1996, this look requires a velvety pencil, a deep moody lipstick (Illamasqua have been queens of the goth look for years), and a bit of a swagger.
