A charity that supports women and children to escape domestic violence has postponed its fundraising event, I Run For Her.

Got Your Back Sista chief executive Melissa Histon said the event - in which participants run or walk a distance and route of their choosing - had been moved from August 22 to October 24.

"We are worried that, like Sydney, the Newcastle lockdown may be extended week-by-week for who-knows how long," she said.

The event currently has 200 registered participants.

"We also hope that by postponing, we can retain our goal of having people come together in a moment of solidarity and showing women who are suffering from domestic violence that they are not alone.

"With the change of date, we will no doubt have even more members of our supportive community join up for the day."
