Got to take our hat-offs when someone plays so well: Tim David

HYDERABAD: Mumbai Indians’ Tim David lauded SRH batters saying that they have played some amazing shots and they need to take their hats off when someone plays so well.

Speaking after suffering a 31-run loss against Sunrisers in a match that saw hosts rake up a record total of 277/3 in the history of IPL, the lanky batter said, “It was a very entertaining and amazing match.”

Mumbai did give the Pat Cummins & Co a scare before faltering in the chase. On the back of Tilak Varma’s 34-ball 64-run knock and David’s unbeaten 42 off 20, Mumbai posted 246/5. When asked about the team talk during the half-way stage, he revealed, “We believe in our batting unit. We chased down some big totals last year. We were keeping up with the run rate. We can’t look at the total itself. It is a process to reach there. Although we didn’t get the runs, it was a great performance from us too,” he added.

At the half-way stage in the chase, the five-time defending champions were at 141/2, just seven runs short of the SRH’s total. “From that point, we still needed a lot of runs. Credit to SRH as they bowled well, took pace off on the slowing pitch. It was hard to hit. Everything has to be right to chase down that target. But it didn’t.”

“There were a lot of sixes. A few went over my head that I felt could have been caught. But it is tough for the bowlers. When someone plays so well, you have to take your hats off.”

He also lauded Tilak, the Hyderabad cricketer, who kept the Mumbai side in the hunt for the most part of the match. “Tilak played beautifully, hitting the ball cleanly. That is close to his best Tilak got. I say that because I think he still has more than that. It was a special innings. It was a pretty true surface, not a lot of seam moment or spin. We saw SRH bowlers taking pace off which was the hardest to hit.”
