Gostisbehere's goal gives Flyers 2-1 overtime win over Stars

PHILADELPHIA _ The Flyers needed some extra time but have kept their winning streak alive. Shayne Gostisbehere's power-play goal with 1 minute and 10 seconds left in overtime, gave the Flyers a 2-1 win over the Dallas Stars at the Wells Fargo Center. It was his second goal of the game.

The Flyers' previous five wins during this streak came in regulation.

Dallas, which lost 5-2 on Friday in New Jersey, didn't look fatigued. Stars coach Ken Hitchcock, who formerly guided the Flyers, was attempting to become the third NHL coach to win 800 games. He entered the game 799-488-200. The only coaches with 800 wins have been Scotty Bowman (1,244) and current Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville (867).

In the first minute of overtime, Dallas center Tyler Seguin hit the post on a blast. With 1:32 left in overtime the Flyers went on the power play when Alexander Radulov was called for hooking Valtteri Filppula.

Gostisbehere then scored the game-winner on a slap shot.

Early in the third period, Flyers goalie Brian Elliott stopped Tyler Pitlick and Seguin from close range.

With 12:39 left, Pitlick shot wide on a breakaway backhand.

Dallas took a 1-0 lead when Remi Elie, from behind the net found an open Gemel Smith at the right circle. Smith's one-timer beat Elliott to the far post with 12:47 left in the first period.

Dallas entered the game 15-3 when scoring the first goal.

On a second-period power play, Stars goalie Ben Bishop somehow made a sprawling save on Wayne Simmonds from in front of the net.

The Flyers kept applying pressure on that same power play and tied the score on Gostisbehere's goal with 10:50 left in the second period.

Gostisbehere scored on a rebound of a Jake Voracek shot that missed the net and bounced off the back board to the Flyers defenseman, who tapped in his fifth goal while diving on the ice, despite the fact that Bishop got a piece of the shot.

After the goal the Flyers failed to cash in on two breakaway opportunities.

Voracek, who had to fend off tight backchecking, shot wide on his chance.

With just under five minutes left in the second period, Flyers right winger Travis Konecny shot wide with a backhand on a breakaway.
