Gossip: Mike Ashley tells Amanda Staveley to be 'ready to go' on Newcastle United takeover

Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is expecting the "green light" to complete the takeover in due course.

A report in the Sun today claims that Ashley has told Amanda Staveley and her Middle East-back consortium to be "ready to go within a month".

And while many fans are erring on the side of caution as the Premier League look to delay legal proceedings on Ashley's double-barrelled courtroom battle, the news is a reflection of Ashley's desire to sell up as soon as possible.

His Competition Appeal Tribunal is scheduled to start next Friday with arbitration set to begin in July.

The report reads: "The group, which comprises of Saudi’s sovereign wealth fund PIF, PCP Capital Partners and Reuben Brothers, became impatient that Prem rulers had dragged their feet over the purchase of Newcastle.

"A deal was agreed in principal in April of last year but it fell through three months later as Prem lawyers struggled to establish the precise links between the consortium and the Saudi state.

"But 56-year-old Ashley claims the real reason for the delay was caused by the Prem’s Big Six blocking the sale."

A club insider is said to have added: "A source from inside the club revealed: “Mike Ashley is certain he’ll win his case.

"He has told the consortium to have their money ready to complete in a month."
