Gosar deserved censure over violent video, says GOP Gov. Chris Sununu

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu on Sunday provided a rare Republican voice of criticism of Rep. Paul Gosar for his outrageous video depicting violence against Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and President Joe Biden.

Gosar, an Arizona Republican, was censured by the House last week for an anime video posted to his social media account edited to show the congressman apparently killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) with a sword and going after President Biden, too.

“When a congressman says those things ... of course, they have to be censured for that. Of course, they have to be held to bear for that,” Sununu told CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Just two Republicans in the House — Reps. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois — voted with Democrats last week to censure Gosar.

Asked whether the GOP had room for Cheney, already a target of Republican rage for criticizing former President Donald Trump, Sununu struck a diplomatic tone.

“Well, I think there’s room for everybody in the Republican Party. I really do,” he said. “Whether you’re independent or Democrat, we’ve got room for everybody to come on board.”

He dodged the question of whether he has his eye on the White House.

“We will see what the future brings. But there is a lot to do and a lot to not just push back with Washington, but a lot to implement here,” he said.
