Gorseinon barbers ordered to close for failing to follow rules on keeping customers Covid safe

A barber has been issued with a closure notice after failing to keep customers coronavirus safe.

Jonny Blades Barbers in Gorseinon's High Street, was issued with the notice after being visited by council officers

It followed a visit by officers earlier this year, in April, when staff were found to be operating without adequate personal protective equipment. On that occasion they were issued with an improvement notice, which obliged the business to ensure adequate PPE was being worn.

But following a second visit by officers on Monday, June 21, a closure notice was issued.

The order issued to the business noted: "The closure is necessary due to the close contact work you carry out; to minimise the risk to your staff and customers. Your staff are clearly not wearing the prescribed PPE."

The closure notice came into effect immediately, with the business being given until June 28 to ensure all staff were issued with adequate PPE.

Closure and Improvement notices are issued when businesses have failed to comply with coronavirus regulations.

Earlier this week, a Newport bowling alley and entertainment venue was handed an improvement notice just a month after re-opening, and, last month, a pub in Uplands received an improvement notice, although it was lifted the following day.

Abercynon pub, Navigation House, also received a notice, although the owner disputed some of the reasons given. And A Swansea bar blamed customers who failed to comply with guidelines after it was issued with an improvement notice.

Pubs in Clydach, Townhill and Bishopston have also all fallen foul of the regulations.
