Gorka Marquez reveals his surprising crush on The One Show as plea is made for first Strictly signing of 2023

Gorka Marquez admitted his 'crush' as he took his place on The One Show couch with his fellow Strictly Come Dancing professionals. Gorka, 32, grinned as he revealed his ideal dance partner when questioned by hosts Alex Jones and Alex Scott.

Gorka, who is engaged to Hits Radio presenter Gemma Atkinson, appeared on the chat show alongside Nikita Kuzmin and Jowita Przystal to chat all things Strictly and to discuss the the Strictly Come Dancing - The Professionals tour which starts next month. The trio were all asked who their dream dancefloor partnership would be.

Nikita, who danced in the 2022 series of Strictly Come Dancing with five-time Paralympic gold medallist Ellie Simmonds, picked superstar singers Beyonce and Shakira and chat show host and Eurovision commentator Graham Norton.

Jowita, who won Stricty 2022 with wildlife cameraman and presenter Hamza Yassin, picked her childhood crush actor Hugh Grant. Then it was Gorka's turn to choose and he said: "My ideal crush, David Beckham."

Explaining why the Manchester United footballing icon would be his choice, Gorka was shown a clip of David, 47, showing off his dance skills with wife Victoria and praised: "He was doing it very well. I watched that video he was doing the salsa."

The star, who made it to the finals with presenter Helen Skelton last year, continued to gush about David, who played for Real Madrid after United: "Look at him. He's got rhythm and good hip movement. Look at him, you can tell he lived in Spain. He would be good, look at him doing the mambo."

Gorka, 32, then added a direct invite to the idol, saying: "If he wants to improve I can teach him a little bit more if he wants. Just let me know."

Gorka, who has just returned home after a beach holiday with former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks actress Gemma, 38, and their three-year-old daughter Mia, was also asked about rumours that the BBC dance contest looks set to sign its first ever contestant in a wheelchair. The One Show hosts suggested their colleague BBC disability correspondent Nikki Fox for the line-up.

Alex Scott told him: "Our very own Nikki Fox, she wants to be on so can you put in a good word for her?" And Gorka gave the idea his seal of approval. "I didn't know the rumours because I was on holiday," he explained. "Thank you for letting me know. It's a rumour I guess because we don't know anything but I think it could be a good thing for the show."

Referring to Rose Ayling-Ellis, the show's first deaf contestant, breaking down barriers to lift the glitterball trophy with Giovanni Pernice in 2021, he continued: "We had two years ago Rose and Giovanni and they showed to all the audience it doesn't matter if you have a disability you can still do whatever you want."

He added: "It could be something very inspiring and and show new generations you can do whatever you want." Alex Jones replied: "I can't believe we're talking about the next series already."
