Gorka Márquez broke down in tears on tour and refused to go out after birth of baby Mia

Gemma Atkinson has revealed that Gorka Márquez broke down in tears whilst on tour shortly after the birth of their daughter.

Gemma, 37, gave birth to baby Mia in July 2019, but due to contractual agreements, Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka had to hear off on tour.

Speaking to stand-in host Christine Lampard, former Emmerdale actress Gemma said on Monday's episode of Lorraine: "I mean he had to go on tour when she was three days old.

"And again, he got grief for it but he was contractually... he had a contract and it wasn't just his show, it was production that he'd be letting down.

"And yeah, obviously he has to keep the social going for his show and get the tickets sold, so I was looking at all the stuff online of him and Giovanni and Aljaž altogether and I was sat at home with my stitches and you know, the nurses coming round to change my dressing, Mia crying, and I was just like, 'oh my gosh, this is my life now and nothing's changed for him'."

Gemma continued: "And I remember speaking to my mum about it and she was saying, 'well typically the guys go back to work, things change, obviously there's different people in lots of different situations...'

"But during the tour, it was Gio, Giovanni [Pernice] text me and said, 'Gorka's not been himself, I'm just letting you know'', and I FaceTimed him and they were all out one night, all the lads, and he was in the hotel on his own.

"And he just got really upset, he said, 'I don't want to be here, I wanna be at home with you and our baby'.

"And it just dawned on me that it's just as tough for the partner who goes back to work than it is for the partner who's at home, you kind of resent each other's situations a little bit.

"But it was that case that as soon as he came off tour, I was like, 'there you go'," Gemma joked as she mimicked handing a baby over.

At the end of the interview, Christine revealed that Gorka had recorded a very special video message for Gemma.

As the clip played, Gorka was heard saying: "Hi baby, it's me. I know you're today on Lorraine so I just want to say I'm super proud of you, can't wait till your book comes out and everyone can read it. So I just want to see I love you and I'm proud of you."

Gemma looked super chuffed and revealed: "He's so sweet. You know what, he's been like that since day one! He's so romantic and lovely."

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV and ITV Hub.
