Deep in the depths of the Congo jungle, Hal and Roger Hunt, the heroes of the story, are on another challenging mission. This time they are searching for a large male mountain gorilla, a python, a Colobus monkey, a black mamba and a leopard… They certainly have their work cut out for them!
This is the tenth in a fourteen-book adventure series by the Canadian author and natural historian, Willard Price, published back in 1969. It is jam-packed full of action, excitement and suspense; and it also contains plenty of information on wild animals, their behaviour and habitats. It's engaging storyline raises awareness of the importance of animal conservation too.
I love the fact that you never quite know what's going to happen next in these adventure stories. For instance, on one occasion quite early on, as Roger was lying in wait for a python to come back to its mate, a gorilla lumbered out of the bushes. Roger didn't throw his noose around the gorilla as one might have expected him to; instead he let it walk by. A few minutes later, a white python appeared out of a hole in the ground and Roger swung the lasso to try to capture it. However, just then, the gorilla re-emerged and accidentally stepped on a coil of the snake who reacted angrily and wrapped himself around the gorilla's body. It's so action-oriented and is a gripping read!
So, if you love action, adventure and wildlife, I would highly recommend this book to you, along with the other books in the series. I can't wait to read more of them!
