Gordon Ramsay wants to turn his restaurants at the top of the City’s tallest skyscraper into 24-hours destinations serving bankers and traders through the night.
The restaurateur has applied to the City of London Corporation for an extension of trading hours for the sale of alcohol and late night refreshment at his premises at the top of the 22 Bishopsgate tower to “24 hours a day seven days a week”.
Ramsay opened his Asian-themed Lucky Cat as Britain’s highest restaurant on level 60 of the 278 metre high colossus in February.
In total he is planning to operate five venues, including a Gordon Ramsay Academy, a Restaurant Gordon Ramsay - a 12 seater chef’s table spin out from his three Michelin starred flagship - and as Bread Street Kitchen due to open later this year.
They occupy floors 58 to 61 of the landmark building in what Ramsay has described as his biggest investment to date.
The application, first spotted by the Hot Dinners restaurant news website, says that after six months of successful trading with a 3am licence the business wishes to apply for a 24 hours licence.
The application add: “Longer hours will allow potential custom from finance, banking and other businesses in the City that deal with clients from different time zones and the extra hours would enable the premises to service these businesses and customers.
“We have pre-consulted with Licensing and the Police who in principle appear happy with this amendment and we have agreed with Licensing to amend the challenge 21 condition to challenge 25.
“We have considered the proposed impact of the variation and do not consider that there will be any adverse effect on the promotion of the licensing objectives.”
If the application is successful Lucky Cat will join the still small number of late night destinations in London where it is possible to get a meal and a drink at any hour of the day or night.
The 22 Bishopsgate tower is only a few steps away from one of the best known round the clock destinations in London, Duck & Waffle on the 40th floor of another City skyscraper at 110 Bishopsgate.
