Gordon Ramsay's daughter Holly shares dad's candid life advice after mental health struggles

Gordon Ramsay's daughter Holly Ramsay has shared some life advice from her dad to her followers on social media.

Holly, 21, is open about her mental health struggles on Instagram and revealed some of the best advice she can share to others from Gordon is to 'be kind'.

The mental health advocate launched her own podcast, 21 & Over, where she bravely opens up about living with depression, anxiety and PTSD to help create a safe space online without stigma to discuss mental illness.

The Hells Kitchen chef, originally from Johnstone, Scotland, is best known for his explosive TV personality on his shows like Kitchen Nightmares and Hotel Hell.

During an Instagram Q+A session, Holly was asked what is: "One thing that your dad always tells you about life which can help us all grow?"

Holly responded: "Work hard, play hard.

"Find something you love doing because it will never feel like work.

"Family first, always.

"Be kind."

Holly recently marked one year sober.

She quit booze to put her mental health first after reaching her "lowest point".

In a candid post, the 21-year-old revealed what drove her to 'take control' following a hard time.

Holly wrote back in December 2021: "Today marks one year without alcohol. This is not something I thought I would ever say at the age of 21.

"However, by 21 (nearly 22) I never thought I would've been through half of what I have.

"I choose to take a break from alcohol because it wasn't improving my mental health - which for me, comes first.

"This time last year I was at my lowest and I was scared but I made a decision to take control of what I could - and that meant removing alcohol from my life.

"It was not an easy decision, nor one that I have taken lightly.

"I won't say this is forever, but this is for now. Living without alcohol has helped me feel better and more present both mentally and physically.

"Don't get me wrong, I've had a year of high highs and low lows but I'm grateful I have myself the chance to work through them consciously rather mask my feelings (good and bad) with a drink."

She ended: "Alcohol and antidepressants do not mix well at all. And that is something, unfortunately, I learned the hard way.

"As with everything I have been through, it has been a learning experience and I feel lucky to be able to post this message today, to continue to spread awareness and break the stigma surrounding mental health."

A proud Gordon said in response: "@hollyramsayy what an incredible young lady and words can’t explain enough how proud you make me feel love you so much Dad [heart emoji]."

In another Q+A session from January 2022, Holly was asked how important is it to ditch booze if you struggle daily with your mental health.

Holly admitted it can be 'lonely' at times but said: "This isn't a one size fits all answer...

"For me, cutting out alcohol has made me so much more present, I'm able to have more fun & I'm in control.

"Alcohol + antidepressants don't mix well.

"I made the decision to put my physical and mental health first.

"It can be lonely not drinking especially at this age as it's such a big part of our social lives.. but you will find the right people who don't even care that you're not drinking and are just happy you're with them."

If you're struggling with your alcohol consumption or your mental health, there are lots of places you can find extra support and information – from your GP to mental health charity Mind, or Club Soda, an alcohol-free support group.
