Gordon Ramsay's Bank Balance 'faces axe after two weeks on air' amid poor ratings

Gordon Ramsay's Bank Balance faces the axe, reports say.

The gameshow, headed up by the celebrity chef, has brought in disappointing figures for the BBC despite its primetime slot, with many viewers branding it overly complex.

Its first episode late last month boasted fewer than three million viewers, that figure plummeting to just 1.6 million within two days.

Now reports have emerged claiming higher ups at the broadcaster are already discussing its future.

"Bank Balance has been an unmitigated disaster," a telly insider told The Daily Star.

They added: "The top brass at the BBC are already saying they don't know if they want to commit to a second series. Its future is hanging in the balance."

Bank Balance was a huge gamble for the corporation, given a bumper budget and a top prize of an eye-watering £100K.

It was also given the primetime 9pm slot on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

A BBC spokesperson last night told they are yet to make a decision about the show's future.

"It's still on air with another week to go, so there is obviously no decision yet," they said.

Mirror critic Ian Hyland was no more impressed with the new show than were the viewers at home.

"Apart from the prize money and the – yawn – swearing, everything about Ramsay's vanity projectile screams daytime graveyard slot," he said.

"Yet somehow it has been afforded a plum primetime slot."

But he was also hopeful that with a few key tweaks, the show may one day shape up a lot better.

"Still, it is early days," Ian wrote, "With some minor tweaks to the format (simplify it), the set (less dimly-lit TARDIS, more allow the viewers to see this) and the pacing (more quiz questions, less chat) there could be a fun, play-along at home gameshow in there."

But the most common criticism remains its "overly complex" format.

In the show, players answer questions to earn blocks to stack on a balancing board.

The current series is due to wrap up this Friday (12 March), following its usual Wednesday and Friday shows.

The BBC had no further comment.
