Gordon Ramsay reveals the one lesson he’s proudest of teaching his kids

Gordon Ramsay has said that the defining lesson he has instilled in his six children is one of the simplest — and, he argues, the most valuable — as the television chef continues to balance a high-profile broadcasting career with family life

Gordon Ramsay says the defining lesson he has instilled in his six children is one of the simplest – having good manners.

The sweary TV chef, 59, made the remark while speaking in an interview with Fox News Digital about what he sees as the essential foundation of his children’s upbringing amid a period of continued success across his television empire, after Fox recently renewed his programmes including Hell’s Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, Next Level Chef, Next Level Baker and Gordon Ramsay’s Secret Service.

Known globally for his exacting standards on shows such as MasterChef and Hell’s Kitchen, Gordon shares six children with his wife Tana Ramsay, 51 – Megan, 28, Holly, 26, Jack, 26, Matilda, 24, Oscar, seven, and Jesse, two.

Gordon said: “The one thing I’ve taught them all, brilliantly, are manners.”

He added: “The most important thing in life, but they cost zero.”

The comments come as Gordon continues to speak publicly about his children’s individual paths, particularly Matilda Ramsay, who is pursuing a culinary career.

Speaking to People in February while discussing his Netflix series Being Gordon Ramsay, he said: “Food, restaurants, this industry, you really need to want it, and Tilly was banging the door down.”

He added: “I have to give her credit for that.

“And finally, one out of six wants to be a chef, which has made my entire f****** year.”

Matilda, known as Tilly, opted to attend culinary school in Ireland rather than train under her father – a decision Gordon has publicly praised as evidence of commitment to the profession he has long dominated through flagship series such as MasterChef and Hell’s Kitchen.

Family life has also been visible on Gordon’s social media.

On 16 May, he marked Megan Ramsay’s 28th birthday with a post on Instagram, writing: “Happy Birthday to this beautiful woman, @megan_jane_7. Every day you make me so proud with what you and how much you do for others, love you so much Dad.”

With a TV schedule spanning multiple international productions, Gordon has drawn parallels between his programme output and parenting.

Speaking to PEOPLE at the Fox Upfront event on 11 May, he said: “I have six shows on air right now. That's like saying, I have six kids as well, what's my favorite kid? It depends – it's the one that least p***** me off at the moment.”
