Gordon Ramsay has revealed he recently underwent surgery to remove a patch of skin cancer.
The TV chef, 58, shared photos of his stitched-up face on Instagram and said he was “grateful” it was caught and treated quickly.
Ramsay told fans not to underestimate the dangers of the sun and urged them to wear sunscreen. He wrote: “Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma thank you! Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend ❤️ I promise you it’s not a face lift! I’d need a refund……”
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) develops in the top layer of the skin and is usually caused by sun damage. It grows slowly and rarely spreads, but surgery is often required to remove it. According to the NHS, BCCs are most common on sun-exposed areas such as the face, head, neck and ears. Patients are typically considered cured once the cancer has been completely removed.
Ramsay’s post prompted a wave of support from friends, fans and celebrity well-wishers, who also praised him for raising awareness about skin protection.
One fan wrote: “So important to share things like this, slap on a hat, suncream and seek shade, happy healing, well done to the amazing people who work in healthcare who do amazing work like this ❤️.”
Cancer Research UK added: “Glad to hear you're doing well, Gordon, and thanks for raising awareness of how important it is to stay safe in the sun ❤️ Seek shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen regularly and generously ☀️.”
The post comes amid heated debate around sun protection, after TOWIE star Sam Faiers faced backlash earlier this month for admitting she does not use sunscreen on her children. She claimed some brands contain “toxic ingredients”, a claim dismissed by medical experts.
Doctors have also spoken out against viral TikTok videos suggesting sun cream contains chemicals “more cancerous than the sun”, warning that such misinformation could put people at risk.
