Gordon Ramsay restaurant menu misread leaves diner with eye-watering bill

A diner was left with an eye-watering bill after he misread the menu at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant.

The unnamed man had made a reservation at one of the TV chef's renowned steakhouses with his girlfriend and was looking forward to tucking into the delicious food.

He spotted the "real deal" Triple Seared Japanese A5 Kobe steak was on the menu, which is a luxury type of Wagyu beef and is often billed as the most expensive cut in the world.

The man was surprised to find the prime cut steak was cheaper than expected and so decided to order 12oz, assuming it would cost around £78.

But he was slapped with a bill of almost £450 after he had misread the menu, with the beef costing £26 per ounce - not £26 for the 4 ounces he initially thought.

The man, who visited Gordon Ramsay Steak in Atlantic City, US, said: "So I’m a big guy, I’m hungry, so I order 12 oz of Kobe," he said. "The steak was amazing. I’m in my 40s and only had Wagyu before in my life just twice.

"I had never had real deal Kobe. It was like nothing else you’ll ever have. Melt in your mouth delicious. We also ordered a couple of sides, appetizers, and my girlfriend had chef Ramsay's famous beef wellington for the first time ever.

"All in all an amazing meal and we were glad we could support the restaurant and its staff during these challenging times. And I still couldn't believe Kobe was cheaper than Wagyu!

"Or so I thought."

He added: "I had to read the menu again when the bill came, because for 2 people, the bill was over $600.00!!"

Luckily the man was able to take full responsibility for the mistake and even said he "enjoyed the hell out of it and regrets nothing".

He said: "I wish Chef Ramsay was there to come out and call me a donut for f***ing this up lol.

"I enjoyed the hell out of it. No ragrets baby!"

After sharing the experience on Reddit, one person commented to say: "What you bought was a $600 story. For the rest of your life, every time someone says 'this is good steak' you can say 'Yeah, but..'"

Another wrote: "Thank God it was delicious but that bill... ouch."
