Gordon Ramsay divides fans with £80 burger at new restaurant - and fries cost extra

Gordon Ramsay has left fans divided after launching an £80 burger at his brand new restaurant - and fries cost extra.

The Scottish TV chef, 54, is bringing his hugely popular Gordon Ramsay Burger restaurant from America to London which will open on December 4.

Previously only in Las Vegas, the Michelin-starred chef's new venue promises an "experience like no other" at posh department store Harrods.

The menu includes a 'Wagyu Burger' worth an eye-watering £80, which features a beef patty, seared Wagyu sirloin, truffle Pecorino cheese, cep mayonnaise and fresh black truffle.

But fries are extra - with the price set at £6 for a standard portion with chipotle ketchup.

Customers will also be able to enjoy a £42 'Lobster and Shrimp burger', which is served with pickled vegetables and herb aioli.

Those looking for something cheaper can order the 'American burger' for £21, which includes a beef patty, American cheese, butter lettuce, tomato, pickles, red onion and burger relish.

If you don't fancy a burger, a 'Cheeky Dawg' is available for £21 and consists of a heritage beef hot dog topped with braised ox cheek, horseradish, house pickles and cress.

Customers looking for something different can opt for sweet potato fries that are served with vanilla powdered sugar and honey jalapeno mayo for £6.

For those feeling extra fancy, truffle parmesan fries are available for £9 and are served with truffle aïoli and homemade ketchup.

The chef, 54, announced the arrival of his latest restaurant during a video clip posted on Instagram.

While some people were thrilled by the news, others were less than impressed with the prices of the dishes.

In the clip, Gordon said: "I’m really excited to announce I’m bringing the Gordon Ramsay Burger to Harrods in Knightsbridge for the first time ever.

"Now, the good news is you’ll be able to taste my delicious Somerset-brushed burgers in London, and trust me, this is going to be a burger experience like no other.

"We’ve really elevated our patties using the most incredible mix of the UK’s best cuts of meat."

However, not everyone was as excited by the news, with some people questioning why the burgers were so overpriced.

One person said: "Would be nice if all these millionaire celebrity chefs could cater to the budgets of normal people and not fellow millionaires."

Food writer Chris Pople tweeted: "The rule of expensive burgers is - they're always terrible."

In another tweet, he added: "Main cause of the £80 appears to be Wagyu sirloin which appears to be an addition to the beef patty? Very odd."

Twitter account The Food Doctor tweeted: "I can’t imagine a burger ever tasting good enough to justify that price tag."

In a statement, the celebrity chef told restaurant website Hot Dinners : "I’ve been perfecting burgers for years in America and now at Harrods we are taking it to the next level.

"Championing some of the most incredible ingredients from amazing British providers, producers, artisans and growers, all cooked to absolute perfection and served with sensational sides.

"I guarantee this will be a burger experience like no other."
