Gordon Elliott lands treble at Down Royal as Zanahiyr wins WKD Hurdle

Gordon Elliott enjoyed a successful day out at Down Royal today as he landed a treble of favourites on Day One.

Elliott kicked off the day with comprehensive 1/9 favourite Hollow Games, rode by Davy Russell, in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden Hurdle.

And the day's feature WKD Hurdle was taken by Elliott again as Zanahiyr (8/13) got back to winning ways with a dominant display.

The treble was secured when 1/3 favourite The Mediator made no mistake on the last race of the day, sealing a good day's work for Elliott.

“Jack said he was trying to wind it up the whole way, he actually wasn’t doing a stroke and had his ears pricked,” said Elliott after Zanahiyr's win in the big race.

“From the second-last to the line he galloped the whole way. We are very happy.

“He’s entered in the Hatton’s Grace (at Fairyhouse), but we’ll have to have a look and see what we think.

“I could see him stepping up in trip at some stage in the season.”

Elliott was earlier on the mark with the promising Hollow Games (1-9 favourite), who made no mistake in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden Hurdle under Davy Russell.

“He’s a nice, horse, he’s a big galloper. He only does what he has to do. He’s an Albert Bartlett type,” said Elliott.
