Gordon Elliott bags quick Navan treble as Davy Russell returns to winner's enclosure

Gordon Elliott has bagged a quick treble, while Davy Russell returned to the winner's enclosure, at Navan today.

The Meath handler has a terrific record at his local track and he saddled the opening winner when Weseekhimhere was five and half lengths too good for Vultan in the Download The Bar One Racing App Maiden Hurdle.

Jack Kennedy rode the son of Elusive Pimpernel to a smooth victory - the jockey's first winner since returning from a spell on the sidelines with fractured ribs.

Elliott then made it a double on the card with Chemical Energy in the Bar One Racing 'Double The Odds First Goalscorer Special' Maiden Hurdle.

Davy Russell, who returned to the track this week after nearly a year out through injury, steered the smart bumper horse and 4/7 favourite to a comfortable win.

Russell said: “That was lovely. It was heartening to get such a nice reception when I came back in. My mother is from this part of the country, so my uncles used to always come racing here in the past. It’s a great place.

“It’s a lovely feeling when you cross the line. It’s a relief, if anything, and at least I can still do it anyway.

“I feel great, super, and got through Downpatrick no problem.”

And in the very next race, the BarOneRacing.com Hurdle, Elliott's Tullybeg battled all the way to line to get the better of a thrilling duel with Edison Kent. This time rising star Jordan Gainford did the steering.
