Gordon Brown to lecture Edinburgh students on economics

Former prime minister Gordon Brown is returning to his former university to give a talk on economics.

The university refers to him as "Dr Brown" in announcing the details of his lecture. He was elected rector while still a student and graduated in 1972. He went on to gain a PhD there in 1982 and is also an honorary graduate.

He will speak at the University of Edinburgh to argue that there is an alternative to the prospect of low growth and high unemployment. Brown will claim that instead the future could be one of 'jobs and justice'.

The address is part of the Gifford Lecture series hosted each year by the Universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and St Andrews.

The Future of Jobs and Justice lectures will take place at the McEwan Hall at Bristo Square on Tuesday 19 April from 5.30pm.
