Gordan Petric gives Scotland scouting report as former Rangers star warns Serbia over mentality

Former Rangers star Gordan Petric has warned Serbia not to underestimate Scotland as he talked up their big game mentality.

The retired defender spent much of his career in Scotland, also turning out for Dundee United and Hearts.

But it's at Ibrox where he learned that every match is like a cup final for a team facing Rangers or Celtic, and he feels that could be crucial on Thursday.

Scotland just need a win to end a 23 year major tournament absence and make it to Euro 2020 and Petric knows Steve Clarke's men will be up for it.

He told Novosti: "They'll be as motivated as our national team.

"They have players in their line-up who play matches that are like a final every Wednesday and Saturday.

"They're used to full stadiums but they'll also be somewhat used to the new circumstances by now and the empty stands that will await them in Belgrade.

"We may not have been in the European Championships for 20 years but it's been 24 for them.

"Not to mention that in Belgrade they'll be fighting for the chance to play the tournament in their own country next year because they're in the group that will be played in London and Glasgow.

"We have the better players on paper and I hope that will show on the pitch too.

"But I expect a tactical battle, their coach is going with a 3-4-1-2 formation while ours likes 3-4-3.

"The outcome could be decided by one moment of magic - or one mistake."
