Gorbals incident: man suffers serious head injury in late night incident near Glasgow Sheriff Court

A man was rushed to hospital with a serious head injury after a late night 'disturbance' near to Glasgow Sheriff Court in the Gorbals.

Police were called to the junction of Oxford Street and South Portland Street, off Norfolk Street, at around 10pm last night.

The 25-year-old was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with what had originally been diagnosed as life threatening injuries.

An eyewitness told Glasgow Live forensic officers were at the scene and a police helicopter was hovering over the area while local streets were shut down.

Police have launched an investigation following the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of a disturbance near Norfolk Street, at the junction with Oxford Street and South Portland Street, Glasgow, around 10pm on Saturday, 29 August.

"A 25-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with a serious head injury that is no longer believed to be life threatening.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
