Goran Tomic dubs Hibs 'long ball' merchants as he outlines what Rijeka must do to beat them

Rijeka boss Goran Tomic reckons Hibs are a long ball team.

But it’s not what his side are used to facing ahead of their Europa Conference league encounter this week.

The first leg takes place at Easter Road this Thursday before they meet again in Croatia the week after.

Tomic said last week that he expects a physical approach from Jack Ross’ team.

And now he’s accused them of missing out the misfield and playing percentages.

"I have learned about Hibs and I've found out their game is based on being quick and being competitive in tackles.

"They prefer to skip the middle of the pitch by hitting long balls over the top, rather than patiently building from the back and across the park.

"So they clearly play a totally different type of football than the one we are used to.

"It just means we have to adapt and prepare ourselves for what is coming.”

Rijeka played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with champions Dinamo Zagreb at the weekend, twice pegging them back before going ahead themselves, only for the country’s most successful club to level thins up.

And Tomic has warned his players must defend much better against their Scottish Premiership opponents in midweek.

He added: "I put all my energies into the Dinamo match, but now that is over I will focus properly on Hibs. We will analyse them fully.

"We can't defend as we did against Dinamo and credit to them because we weren't able to even get the ball out of our half for the first 25 minutes of the game.

"But we fought back and did well to get a point in the end."
