Stunned baseball fans watch on as wild goose chase takes an unfortunate turn

A loose goose has quite literally crashed a major league baseball game between the Tigers and Angels in Detroit.

The goose was happily strutting his stuff in the infield, entertaining a restless crowd during a sixth inning rain delay before ground staff attempted to shoo him away.

After putting a couple of steps together to lead his would-be captors on a wild chase around the outfield, the escape attempt took an unfortunate turn when the goose took to the air, only to smash into the scoreboard surrounding the ballpark.

The dazed goose subsequently plummeted into the seats below, narrowly missing some concerned spectators.

A local Detroit Tigers supporter removed the goose and spectators in the ground were informed he was OK — ironically by the stadium scoreboard.

Prior to all the excitement, the Tigers and Los Angeles Angels were locked up at 1-1, but a five-run sixth inning from the hosts secured a 6-1 victory for Detroit.

That prompted some fans to credit the goose with the Tigers victory, with the hashtag #RallyGoose trending in Detroit.
