Goose Fair plans in Nottingham are forging ahead

Six weeks ago when lockdown commenced the summer and all its associated fun seemed a lifetime away.

Now, while some event organisers are still hoping for the best, many of our favourite calendar staples has been rescheduled or cancelled for this year, including the Robin Hood Festival in August, Download in June and Y Not? in mid-July.

As it currently stand both Splendour Festival (July 18) and the Nottingham Beach (mid-July) are still going ahead as planned with organisers keeping a watchful eye on the latest guidelines from the Government.

But what about further into the year? Autumn is a busy time for events in Nottingham including the city's favourite family outing, Goose Fair.

Approaching its 736th year (or thereabouts because no one is entirely sure), the five day fun fair is one of Europe's largest travelling fairs.

More than 450,000 people attend the event each year to have a go on one of the 500 attractions including the likes of the Air, Airmaxx, AtmosFear, Bomber Mach 2, Crazy Bulls, Moondance, Mouse Coasters, Reverse Bungee, Rock Rage, Sea Storm and Star Flyer.

Now for the good news.

A spokesman for Nottingham City Council, who organise the event at the Forest Recreation Ground, told Nottinghamshire Live planning for the 2020 event is continuing as usual.

A decision will be made closer to the time, and will take account of Government advice then, as to whether it can go ahead or whether any changes are required to ensure a safe event.

So as it stands, you'll still be able to get your mushy pea and waltzer fix this October.
