Dozens of Google workers who were terminated following internal protests related to a significant contract between the technology giant and the Israeli government have taken action by filing a complaint with labor regulators in hopes of reinstatement. The complaint, submitted to the National Labor Relations Board, asserts that approximately 50 employees were unjustly dismissed or put on administrative leave in response to sit-ins staged at Google offices in New York and Sunnyvale, California.
The demonstrations were aimed at Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion agreement through which Google provides artificial intelligence technology to the Israeli government. The workers who were let go claim that this technology is being used in a harmful manner in the Gaza conflict, an accusation that Google denies.
Google cited the employees' involvement in a 'peaceful, non-disruptive protest directly related to their terms and conditions of employment' as the reason for their termination.
The National Labor Relations Board has not yet outlined a specific timeline for reviewing the case, leaving the fate of the fired Google workers in limbo.
