Google warns all Gmail, Drive and Photos users that their content could be deleted

They’re some of the most popular apps around the world, but if you use Gmail, Google Drive or Google Photos, your content could soon be deleted.

Google has warned users that their content could be deleted if they don't follow the latest rules.

The email reads: “We are writing to let you know that we recently announced new storage policies for Google Accounts using Gmail, Google Drive (including Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, Forms, and Jamboard files) and/or Google Photos that bring us in line with industry practices.”

Google explained that accounts will only be at risk if they’ve not been in use for two years, or if you’ve exceeded your storage limit for two years.

It added: “If you're inactive for 2 years (24 months) in Gmail, Drive or Photos, we may delete the content in the product(s) in which you're inactive. If you exceed your storage limit for 2 years, we may delete your content across Gmail, Drive and Photos.”

Thankfully, Google says that it will send you multiple warnings before your content is deleted.

And if your content is removed, it won’t be until June 2023, according to Google.

Finally, if you’re a Google One member, and are within your storage quota, you won’t be impacted by the new policy.

As standard, Google Accounts come with 15 GB of free storage across Gmail, Drive and Photos.

Google explained: “Every Google Account starts with 15 GB of free storage that’s shared across Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos.

“When you upgrade to Google One, your total storage increases to 100 GB or more depending on which plan you choose.

“You also receive extra member benefits and access to support from Google experts, all of which you can share with your family.”
